Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born in and lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam is Jazmine's mom, and is a former backing singer in the band Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, of age, her dad landed in the role of curator for City's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the landmark historical building. In 2005, she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as singer-music major. Sullivan started singing as a contralto children's choir, then shortly after, she was a part of the adult choir. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was not extensive at first "I performed solo at the church, and I was asked to be a part of the gospel label at age was eleven but I wasn't yet ready," she recalls. Then, McDonald's held a contest for kids in big cities. I was able to perform "Accept The Grace God Gives" in The show Showtime at the Apollo. And the people were very enthusiastic. At the age 13 she performed along to Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan was 15 when she began her career with Jive Records. As a teenager she signed with Jive Records. She recorded an entire album there, but it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was later removed at the hands of the company. The singer had a great working connection along with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced some of her tracks such as "Backstabbers", which was written by Timbaland.
